Theatre and performances
Protected by the Duke of Orléans, the brother of Louis XIV, Molière dropped in at Versailles on more than one occasion to entertain the Court with plays during important festivities organised at the Palace. And Versailles still keeps up this tradition. You won't be surprised to learn that many actors come here to tread the boards in the different theatres.
Every month the Théâtre Montansier thrills theatre goers with revisited classics and purely modern creations. Everything is staged in the historic Théâtre Montansier, the inauguration of which was attended by Louis XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette.
Spend an intimate evening at the Royale Factory with all the undeniable charm of a genuine theatre-cabaret. You'll find an eclectic programme combining theatre and music. You can also enjoy a good meal during or after the show.
Finally, Versailles offers you the chance to experience Molière Month. A whole month when Versailles is transformed into an open-air theatre with over 300 performances, mostly free!
