The Palace Park covers 800 hectares and is a must for joggers. It is free to enter all year round. There are plenty of jogging routes for you to choose from. By far the most popular among local residents is the Grand Canal. It is 5.5 km, relatively flat and mostly shaded. This is also where the Go Sport Running Tour at the Palace of Versailles takes place at the beginning of July. Want to extend your route? No problem: several paths will let you jog around the Park at will.
No fewer than four major running events are organised every year in the Palace Park. Have you got your running bib ready?
The Pièce d'Eau des Suisses is another favourite running spot among locals. It is free to enter and the avenue is framed by a double row of plane trees. A complete circuit is about 2.2 km.
Cycling enthusiasts are equally well catered for. The town's broad and majestic avenues offer up to 70 km of cycle routes that will take you through Versailles' most attractive districts.
The green belt also has 20 kilometres for you to discover either on foot or by bike. Signposting is patchy and often non-existent, so we recommend that you take a map and download the GPS track to your watch or smart phone if you can.
