  • From a long time, Versailles is related to the horses. Few library collections show this passion for the horses, born with the beginning of the absolute monarchy at the palace of Versailles. This passion persist nowadays.

In Versailles, this passion remains current thanks to the creation of the Equestrian Arts Academy, the Horse Club and finally the equestrian competitions for the Olympic Games in 2024 (which will take place in Versailles).

This important documentary exhibition, presented by the main library of Versailles, talk about a specific point of the horses: its connection with the different representations of the authority, the literature inspired of the magnificent animals, and also in various symbolic collectable items.
The exhibition is related to the Hermès Department Heritage Collections, only house conserving some harnessing techniques nowadays.

The Galery of Foreign Affairs, historical monument from Louis XV's time and nowadays, storage of ancient and rare books of the main library of Versailles, is the perfect place to welcome this exhibition. The exhibition circuit show the image evolution of the horse, powerful instrument since Antiquity until its use for social and bourgeois purposes in the middle of the XIXth century.
