Exhibition "Commande photographique de la ville de Versailles 2007/2015"

Location : Archives Communales de Versailles

As part of the "Mois de ma Photo" of Greater Paris, the municipal archives of Versailles offers you ta look back on 8 photographic orders of the City.
These photographs and reports, made since 2007, bring a singular and contemporary look at places, neighborhoods, inhabitants or agents of the City, through the eyes of photographers like Joachim Bonnemaison, Claude Renaud or Sophie Brandström.

Created in 1980, "The Month of the photo" saw in 2017 its formula and its dates evolve. The exhibitions are now extended to "Grand Paris" throughout the month of April. The city of Versailles is part of this expanded program and highlights, from April to June, photography from different angles, related to the history of the city, its funds, acquisitions and orders.

From the Place d'Armes to the Satory camp, from the Hôtel de la Guerre to the Barracks d'Artois, there are many sites and buildings, both civilian and military, that bear witness to the military past of Versailles. Barracks, camps, maneuvering or training grounds, schools ... all symbolic or emblematic places of this military presence, presented and illustrated through documents kept in the Communal Archives. Created in 1790, memory of our city and its administration since its origins, common heritage transmitted and enriched from generation to generation, the municipal archives are necessary for the management and the good functioning of the municipal services in their daily activity and constitute tools of decision support for elected officials. Useful and convincing for the exercise of citizens' rights, they are also indispensable for teaching and research.
To date, the communal archives contain more than 3200 linear meters of documents from public or private funds, dating from the 16th century to the present day: parish and civil registers, population censuses, deliberations of the municipal council, planning files, funds iconographic, local press ...
