Presentation

Every Thursday (except some exceptional days), discover the musical masterpieces of French and European productions from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Organised this season from 24 November 2022 to 1 June 2023 by the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, the Établissement public du château de Versailles and the CNSMD de Paris, Musical Thursdays are the weekly auditions of the Pages & Chantres choir at the Chapelle royale of the château de Versailles.

This abundant season of Musical Thursdays, conceived by Fabien Armengaud, will be based on three main themes, allowing us to hear the masterpieces of the Baroque repertoire as well as numerous unpublished treasures. The theme of Baroque piety will cover all the emblematic forms of sacred music, from the small motet (Bernier, Danielis, the Tours manuscript), to the polyphonic mass with a recreation of Charles d'Helfer's Missa In aeternum cantabo, via a programme of Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Histoires sacrées, conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm. Polychorality will find its place in the generous acoustics of the Royal Chapel and will bring Charpentier, Benevoli and the Mazzochi brothers into dialogue. The theme Pompes et Circonstances will allow us to hear two historical reconstructions, the first devoted to the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Lyon with two unpublished works by François Estienne and Nicolas Antoine Bergiron, and the second to the music of the Camp du drap d'or, the famous diplomatic meeting of François I and Henry VIII of England in Balinghem, in partnership with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Emmanuelle Haïm, for the closing of her residency at the CMBV, will conduct a programme devoted to the emblematic genre of tragedy in music. As every year, the CMBV's master's class will be joined by the instrumental forces of the CRR de Versailles Grand Parc, the CRD de Paris-Saclay, the PSPBB and the CRR de Paris.
