Visite guidée du quartier Notre-Dame

  • Statue Hoche devant l'Eglise Notre Dame

The Notre Dame district is Versailles' oldest. Because Louis XIV wanted to beautify the area around the palace, he undertook to create a new town on undeveloped land to its north. The district was built around its original institutions: the Eglise Notre-Dame, which was the king's parish, whose registers hold the most prestigious signatures; the Hôtel du Bailliage, which housed the local court of law under the Ancien Régime and which is now the heart of the picturesque Antique dealers district; the Food Market, which still enlivens the square laid out by the Sun King's architects … The district also holds the Musée Lambinet, the Musée de la Ville de Versailles, housed in a delightful Eighteenth Century private mansion.
