Presentation

Culminating above 150m, the Montbauron hill is a hilly area forming an eminence in the center of the city. There are elegant houses and a reservoir still supplying the fountains of the gardens of Versailles.
During the construction of the main avenue of Versailles in 1664 (avenue de Saint-Cloud, avenue de Paris, and avenue de Sceaux), Montbauron Mound was located exacty on avenue de Paris now. A part of the avenue was destroyed to build the Palace in 1670.

Monbauron Mound was enclosed by a wall of 2000 metres. 5 gates given access to the mound, by differents side.

The mound was untapped until the build of the tanks in 1685 to supply the Palace's fountains. You can still see two of the tanks and one still supplying the foutains.
