To mark the 400th anniversary of the French Navy, the Official Painters of the Navy are dropping anchor in Versailles! A total of 21 artists, including painters, photographers, sculptors and ceramists, are presenting their works at the Espace Richaud.
This multidisciplinary exhibition brings together creations ranging from photography to painting, drawing and sculpture. Presented in a setting that interacts with the stone and architecture of the venue, the works highlight the richness of maritime heritage.
Through a wide variety of media and subjects, the artists of the French Navy explore its many facets: military, infrastructural and natural. They offer a sensitive and varied vision of the seascape, as time passes and the weather changes.
Educational approach
This exhibition, which is aimed at all audiences, has been designed with a strong educational dimension. A planisphere allows visitors to locate all the places where the works were created, from Brittany to Tahiti, Patagonia to Réunion Island, Kerguelen to Porquerolles... and to see the extent of the Navy's operations and the travels of its Official Painters.
Young visitors take centre stage!
Throughout the visit, special labels will help young visitors observe and discover the works on display in the exhibition. These labels will also be a good excuse for a family visit.
They will also enjoy an educational area where they can independently consult or read books about the sea and marine environments, adapted to their age, as well as draw inspiration from the works around them.
