The Potager du Roi embodies a place of knowledge transfer where, since its inception, expertise and innovation have gone hand in hand. In the 19th century, it became a major centre of learning with the establishment of the École nationale d’horticulture. The art of training fruit trees on espaliers reached a high level of mastery there, and the curriculum was enriched with scientific disciplines. From 1945 onwards, landscape architecture and the art of gardening were taught, leading to the establishment of the École nationale supérieure de paysage in 1976 and the École supérieure de jardin in 2025. Straddling heritage and innovation, the Potager du Roi remains, more than ever, a vibrant space for the transmission of knowledge.
