Walking trail - The Saint-Louis district
Presentation
Discover Versailles on a 6km cycle route through the Saint-Louis district.
Start at the Versailles Tourist Office, the ideal starting point for discovering the Saint-Louis district. Head for the Place d'Armes, located in front of the Château de Versailles.
Then take a stroll around the Pièce d'Eau des Suisses, a 13-hectare pool dug between 1679 and 1682 by a regiment of Guards. This exceptional walking area is surrounded by lawns and trees, offering a peaceful break in the heart of nature.
Continue your tour via rue Satory, a lively and charming street with shops and restaurants. After this little urban escapade, head for the Potager du Roi, a masterpiece of the art of the regular French garden, created for Louis XIV. Here you will discover traditional gardening techniques that are still in use today.
Continue on to the Cathédrale Saint-Louis de Versailles, listed as a historic monument since 1906. This cathedral is an example of classical architecture with impressive stained glass windows.
Next, head for the Carrés Saint-Louis, one of the most picturesque spots in Versailles. These maisonettes, built under Louis XV, were originally intended to house the shops of a complementary market to that in the Notre-Dame district.
Finish your tour by returning to your starting point at the Versailles Tourist Office, after a rewarding exploration of Versailles.
