Discover a little-known repertoire centred on Clara Schumann and her pupils at an exceptional concert at the Villa Viardot.
Laura Granero, Job ter Haar on the cello and the Fanny Davies Ensemble invite you to explore the musical legacy of Clara Schumann and that of the female composers who studied under her.
The programme pays particular tribute to Clara Wieck-Schumann, featuring her Suite from *Soirées musicales*, Op. 6, and her *Nocturnes, Mazurkas and Romanzas*, Op. 22. It also introduces the works of several of her pupils and their musical circle, including Mary Wurm, Alice Verne-Bredt and Adela Verne: piano pieces, waltzes, lieder, lullabies and works for piano and cello.
The concert will notably provide an opportunity to hear Mary Wurm’s Sonata for Cello and Piano, published by the Fanny Davies Ensemble and performed for the first time in France at the Villa Viardot.
Through this programme, the Fanny Davies Ensemble continues its research into Clara Schumann’s school of piano playing and helps to bring to light female composers who have long remained in the shadows of music history.
A unique musical encounter combining heritage, historical research and the rediscovery of an exceptional repertoire by female composers.
